“My Only Photograph of Dad”

I received a letter from Jackie, her letter said

“Please find enclosed a photo of my dad, which I hope you can restore. My dad died in May 1947 and I was born a month after in June 1947, this photo is all I have of him.”

“Dear Richard, Thank you so much for what you did to dads photo, I never knew a photo in that condition could be restored perfectly. I can now get a proper image of what my dad looked like, as I never had the pleasure of knowing him. I have one remaining sister and she was only 7 when he died, she only remembers bits n pieces about dad, it may sound strange but this photo will bring me that much closer to dad, n you have managed to do that for me, n I thank you for that…” Jackie

14th Century Family Tree Artwork

Shirley T brought a small but high quality print to me and asked for it to be scanned and enlarged. The original print is about 8cm (3 inches) square. The final enlargement I supplied was 76cm (30 inches) square. Here is the before, after and the close up of a detail of the tree.

The Speich family formed a significant presence in the Sernf Valley of Switzerland in the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th Centuries but during the latter part of the period economic depression and repeated plagues drastically reduced the population and of course the Speichs.

The difference between the format used by the professional company that compiled the Speich Tree and that found in this Country is that it starts at the centre with the latest members of the family and expands outwards to include the earliest members of the family that could be traced including, where possible, their dates of birth and death, their occupations and their coats of arms.

Shirley’s dad’s uncle commissioned the work which is all hand painted we think about 70 years ago. The tree detail goes back to 14th century!

Matched Canvas Prints Make Effective Display

Below are two separate photographs which I colour matched and cropped to align so that the two resulting canvas enlargements that were each 30” x 20” could be hung next to each other on a gallery landing – and very effective they looks too. Terry can be seen in each picture!

Together Again!

I was asked recently to restore these two individual photographs. I then provided a new image with the happy couple in the same photograph for the first time. The scale had to be altered as the girl was larger than the man in the original photographs

Oaklands The Grange Red Cross Hospital 1918 Photograph Before and After Restoration by Photographs Forever

This photograph of Oaklands The Grange, Clevedon – Red Cross Hospital was taken 18 November 1918

This residence was kindly lent to the Red Cross by Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Wills, of Ramsbury Manor, Wiltshire, completely free of charge for use as an auxiliary hospital in August 1914.

It came under the jurisdiction of the 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol, later being affiliated to the Beaufort War Hospital. The members of the men and women’s sections Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD), Somerset 33 (Clevedon section) and Somerset 2 worked arduously in its preparation and by the time it was opened on November 9th 1914, they had furnished ten wards and a total of 45 beds, and also equipped the offices and kitchen.

Historic Titanic Photograph Restored

This is a photograph of Falco Ala who was a former slave and claimed to be 106 years old. He was a slave in Colleton County South Carolina.

Titanic Photograph Before Restoration and Manipulation

Customer David Lawrence purchased this photograph, framed in a convex frame from the USA to add to his large collection of Titanic memorabilia. When the photograph arrived he was amazed to find that the actual Titanic book in the picture was also enclosed. As the book in the photograph was very faded I combined a new image of the book into the photograph to make an even more realistic restoration that was enlarged for reframing.

The Sinking of the Titanic and Great Sea Disasters – After restoration

The original photograph was taken in Falco Ala’s cabin around 1912-13. The Titanic book in his hand is a first edition. It appears he married and his son died on the Titanic. Research shows there were four Negro passengers on board and none survived so the story stands up.

Restored Second World War Photograph

This is a photograph after I restored it recently for Steve Foster who explains

“My father fought with the Sherwood Foresters in Norway and was there when the battalion commander Lt Col Ford, decided to avoid any more bloodshed, and to surrender the remnants of his battalion who had run out of ammunition. Over 350 had been killed in the hand to hand fighting. My good friend, John Stephenson who is 83, is the son of the soldier at the back of the group looking into the camera. He was awarded a mention in despatches for his actions that day and John does not know the photo exists. This is my present to him. My father is the soldier only half in the shot on the right of the picture.”
